Located in Southwestern Oregon, on acreage of varied flat to hilly ground is home to our Cob and Sport pony farm.
The Welsh Cob is used and enjoyed all over the world as a superlative ride and combined driving animal. We ask you, Why have a high-maintenance temperamental horse when you can own a fun and happy, easy keeping Cob or Cob cross?!
As combined driving animals they are unrivaled. (see our own Duke and Dante of Earl-link coming soon) In Europe for many generations and more recently in the USA it is not uncommon to see purebred Cobs and Half-Cobs in upper level dressage competition. Thoroughbred-Cob and warm-blood crosses are frequently seen in horse trials and in the hunter-jumper competitions. As trail and endurance mounts they offer surefootedness
Temperament should supersede all else. Cobs are bred to possess a strong willingness to please young and old alike. Bred for centuries by Cob fanciers this trait is invaluable to us today. This is the basis of everything we look for in our Cob breeding program. A Cob with the bred in disposition to handle the rigorous discipline of one or even multiple riders with the grace, style and conformation to excel in all equine sports as well as pleasure riding or actual farm work; such as helping to clear a small woodlot.
From our farm they go to families who enjoy them whether they show them to top honors or just enjoy the companionship of a trustworthy mount. Our breeding program is focused on producing equine athletes with 'jump out at you beauty- Living art' presence, beauty and type; Graceful athletic Movement; Strong solid conformation and last but not least intelligent kind temperaments. Quality must be outstanding first and foremost and is of utmost importance to us.
One of our goals is to produce ponies that are safe for all. Training and temperament are a top priority. Please visit our 'testimonial page' (link) and see just some of the horses and ponies we have bred and sold to children and happy families over the years. Pleasantstone stock has made many treasured memories for these families as well as our own. Every Pleasantstone Cob or Cob cross offered for sale are gentle well mannered with friendly golden dispositions. Pleasantstones' breeding program is purposefully kept small. This ensures a quality, hands-on approach in Cob care and raising. Each foal is special to us and bred for a lifetime of pleasure and usefulness. Our youngsters possess wonderful characteristic and are highly people-oriented. Their conformation and movement lend each individual the athleticism necessary to excel in a variety of disciplines. They are sound and conformationally correct and beautiful to behold. As babies, our Cobs learn to stand quietly for the Farrier, Veterinarian or simply being brushed, bathed and curried or tacked up. Starting at home from this young age as well as their bred in temperament makes a mount that any child can handle. Our whole family enjoys being with our babies from the time they are born with many hands on and imprinting if you will; plenty of leading, ground training and handling. As part of our family we play with them, hugging and crawling up on their backs when they are older as we brush and talk with them, doing all kinds of fun trail courses through water, trees and brush, over tarps, jumping in hand and generally spending quality time together. We tack them up in English, Aussie and Western tack and teach them to lunge effortlessly at the walk, trot and canter in both directions with ease. They learn to back up and stop. Each pony has gone over jumps effortlessly and without hesitation due to the fact that they were bred to do the job well. These activities are all a necessary part of being a well-socialized and trained Cob/pony. Working with them from a young age helps ensure a safe mount that anybody can handle.
After all this preparation they can move on to more serious under saddle training with their new owner, professional trainer or with our family. We realize that our Cobs must go on with new owners. We want them to be gentle and safe for their future owners as we would want for our own beloved children. This is a tremendous responsibility. They are to be yours or your families’ favorite companion throughout a lifetime of service and mutual trust. Our Cobs and Cob crosses are a pleasure to work with, and can take a person to the top in the show ring. We know that growing up with a tractable, companion can help children build character and learn responsibility. They overcome different problems as they learn new skills and master the art of riding. Adults can enjoy the same benefits of companionship, riding, exercise and fun with the Cob, due to his general character, hardiness, size and strength. Pleasantstone produces a lovely mount for individuals to develop skills and learn together as well as enjoy at home pleasure riding on a mellow trail, in the show ring as an excellent competitor, pleasure driving or at the competitive CDE, eventing, Drill team, Equestrian team, 4-H or pony club, the dressage arena or at the hunter-jumper circuit. Whatever your equine field our Cobs are treasures to own and love and are bred to do the job for you.
We usually have young "green" Cobs available. The highest standards have been observed in their farrier and veterinary care. Consistent, kind and regular handling has prepared them for the training process At that point they are willing and able to train and compete in any equine venue. They are often placed in homes where a trainer is available to check the progress of the individual rider and correct problems that may arise due to a persons inexperience. If need be we can recommend two or three different professional trainers we are associated with in our area who are available to train if you need some extra help to continue your young Cobs training thus far. These skilled trainers appreciate working with the dispositions of our Cobs. Our young stock learns willingly and will move forward quickly due to their outstanding temperaments and the loving kindness they have been shown since birth. Due to the training, handling, and diligent work we have done with them they are prepared to go on with their training in any equine discipline.
Not only are our Cobs are handled daily but just as importantly they are allowed to grow up and play as youngsters for three or four years. They live in green or dry pastures as needed for their own health and well being. This environment is natural and healthy for the young horse. This space ensures the soundness and correctness of movement in our young stock as they develop and thrive.
We believe that this is how God intended for them to live and flourish, with love, help and tending where needed from us, the Mahoney family. We raise our ponies with all diligence to see that they get what they need to mature properly, growing up in small herds, playing together and learning how to maneuver on varied land over hills and through creeks. This being the way God almighty intended and the best way possible.
He causes the grass to grow for the beasts;
And vegetation for the labor of man,
So that he may bring forth food from the earth.
Oh Lord how many are Thy works!
In wisdom Thou hast made them all.
The earth is full of Thy possessions
Animals both small and great.
From Psalm 104
