FOUNDATION STOCK The broodmare is truly the heart of a breeding program or as the name "foundation" implies, the solid groundwork supporting everything. The foundation broodmare is the "bottom" upon which anything stands. Our breeding stock is selected with many different criteria in mind, always taking the whole of the individual into account. We have either bred our mare foundation stock over many long years or sought out the combination we desired for our breeding program from outstanding individual breeding programs. We endeavor to breed ponies that are not only beautiful to look at, but are a pleasure to spend time with. Temperament and intelligence is paramount to us, developing equines that are reliable and sought after. Proven bloodlines in our stock's pedigrees of animals that have continually proven themselves in various equine events. We have carefully studied the blood-lines to help us breed outstanding athletes that are beautiful to watch with honest temperaments that we like to be around on a daily basis Each mare has her own distinct personality and physical attributes that make her unique and special. We strongly believe that the strength of any program is within its brood-mare band. We have been extremely blessed to own such a fine group of equine ladies whom re-pay us many times over with beautiful offspring and plenty of love. May we from these ladies be able to help you in your own breeding program, equine sport endeavors, or help you to obtain the "perfect companion" to grow with. Hopefully in the future we will have more foals for sale from these special mares. We invite your inquiries and look forward to visitors who appreciate our efforts to breed not only beautiful but useful and reliable stock. Serious Welsh Cob breeders ASK US ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY of a LEASE of one of these great mares or a stallion service trade. You never know until you ask and we are always seeking additional bloodlines to compliment and continue our own breeding program. |

We can't say enough about this first class brood-matron. She has proven herself beyond the shadow of a doubt in our eyes. With five incredible fillies in a row she is a breeder’s dream come true. She has all the best Welsh Cob attributes like correct type, very good carriage and elasticity at all her gaits, great impulsion, great balance rapped up in a very pleasant to work with beautiful package. We can’t say enough good things about Boneddiges! It is said a picture tells a thousand words…so have a look, Boneddiges leaves me speechless! We know and expect to see all great Welsh Cobs coming down through this mare’s offspring!
Born in 1998, this section D mare Mynydd Hir Boneddiges is an outstanding producing brood mare and her bloodlines are praiseworthy, with many celebrated Cobs in her lineage. You can see her offspring here by our Cob stallion North Forks Black Earl. We are extremely pleased with this combination in every way.

It was at the 1951 Royal Welsh show that he brought the house down and the grand stand to it's feet when he won the Tom and Sprightly Cup an award which he won a total of five times. Pentre Eiddwen Comet made his presence felt as a sire throughout the principality by his participation in the Premium scheme where he was an exceptionally popular stallion, he appeared just as fiery and active travelling the various counties as he was when waiting to go into battle in the show ring. Dewi Black Bess was the dam of Pentre Eiddwen Comet. Her sire was Ceitho Welsh Comet and her dam was Bess. Dewi Black Bess was born in 1926. She was the winner of the Prince of Wales Cup in 1935, and she was the dam of Dewi Rosina, winner of the Prince of Wales Cup in 1953. Dewi Rosina was born in 1934. She was black standing at 14.1hh. Her final appearance at the Royal Welsh was in 1953 where she was supreme champion and therefore her name became engraved on the George, Prince of Wales cup. The blood of Dewi Rosina is to be found all over the world, recently through Pentre Eiddwen Comet, Nebo Black Magic and Llanarth Flying Comet. Mynydd Hir Boneddiges Grandsire on her dam’s side; Fronarnth Victor, a stunning deep bay, was a Royal Welsh Winner Twice. Sire of Youngstock Champion Royal Welsh the last 3 years running. His unrivalled performance in recent years has made this stallion the most sort after sire in the sale ring, with his offspring repeatedly topping the sale. Fronarth Victor’s dam, Fronarth Boneddiges, has been Youngstock Champion at Lampeter, Glanusk, Northleach, Three Counties Malvern and Royal Welsh shows. At The Royal Welsh she has been a winner 4 times, once Female Champion, twice Reserve Female Champion and in 1999 was George Prince of Wales Cup winner and Supreme Royal Welsh Champion. Ebbw Victor’s sire, Ebbw Prince was born in 1972. His sire was Rhosfarch Frenin and his dam was Morfydd, who was by Cahn Dafydd. The following article about him was taken from the April 1996 Welsh Cob Review Issue 10. It was written by John Roderick Rees B.A.
"In his famous eleqy,
Thomas Gray wrote: He had not been extensively shown but to see him was to experience a high degree of perfection in type and movement. His abiding glory is his progeny. The most notable is the champion, Ebbw Victor, the outstanding showman who takes over the ring, and is leaving a promising clutch of colts and fillies. I consider Ebbw Prince to have been of the very first rank among Welsh Cobs of today, and that the Ebbw Stud of A. J. Weeks ranks with the very best Welsh Cob studs of today." Ebbw Prince’s sire Cahn Dafydd: Cahn Dafydd was born in 1942; he was bay and stood at 14.3hh. His dam was Gwenogwen and his sire was Mathrafal. He ranks as the leading sire of Royal Welsh Show Champions during the post-war years 1947 -1978, a feat all the more remarkable since all these champions were foaled during the last 6 years of his life. His sire was Mab y Brenin and his dam was Poll of Golfa. Mathrafal has been the most influential Cob Stallion in terms of siring potential future Royal Welsh Champions. Between his progeny they represented a total of 13 Championships. Mathrafal duly won a first prize at the 1937 Montgomeryshire Show. At the 1938 combined Royal Agricultural Society of England and Royal Welsh Show he won the young stock class and went on to win the male championship. His show career was then interrupted by the war years. He won a second prize at the 1947 Royal Welsh Show, third in 1949, second in 1950, third in 1951, champion in 1952 and fourth in 1953.
Minyffordd Megastar’s dam, Beech-Hay Dairy Maid was Winner and Reserve Female Champion, Royal Welsh Show 1995. Minyfford Megastar’s grandsire, Nebo Daniel’s future success could be visualised from his early days. He would spend endless hours trotting around the paddock in great style well away from his dam. He started his showing career as a foal but came to the limelight as a yearling. His bright chestnut colour and four white socks along with his breathtaking action took the eye of most judges. He was shown with great success both in England and Wales until he was retired in 1990 after winning the Supreme Champion at the Lampeter Stallion Show. He left his career in the show ring at the young age of 14 years, Daniel was always a nervous showman, never liked the preparations at home, but once at the show he really excelled in every way. This was the reason why it was decided to retire him bearing in mind, that he had been champion at most of the county shows. In 1988 he won the George Prince of Wales Trophy for the Champion Welsh Cob at the Royal Welsh. He was male champion in 1986 and 1989 also. In 1987 he was Supreme Champion at the Three Counties Show, Malvern. He represented the show at the Horse of the Year Show in the Lloyds in hand champion. He has also won the WPCS sire ratings on several occasions. These are only a very few of his great successes. Along with his great showing success he is also a terrific stock getter, producing mares and stallions of greatest calibre. Nebo Daniel’s sire, Nebo Brenin was born in 1971. He was by Parc Welsh Flyer, out of Nebo Rosebud, who was by Rhystyd Prince. He sadly died in1998 and is now buried near his dam at the Nebo Stud. He was supreme champion at The Lampeter Stallion Show in 1983 and 1984. In 1986 whilst in harness he won at the Royal Welsh. He sired excellent stock topping the sire ratings in 1986,'87,'88,'92,'93. Living to a ripe old age of 27 he has certainly left his mark in the history of Welsh Cobs. Parc Welsh Flyer was born in 1966. He was a 14.3hh, bay, stallion. He was by Pentre Eiddwen Comet, out of Parc Lady. He was a Royal Welsh winner at 3 years old, 3 times tricolour at Lampeter Stallion Show and Supreme champion at the Royal of England show in 1974. Parc Lady was born in 1948. Her dam was Parc Welsh Maid and her sire was Mathrafal. She was 14.2hh, bay and her near for and both her hind legs were white. In 1956 she won the female championship at the Royal Welsh Show and stood reserve to Pentre Eiddwen Comet who was winning the George, Prince of Wales Cup for the second time. In 1957 she was defeated in her class but then went on to win the Prince of Wales Cup four years in succession. |

North Forks Lady Aemma Pedigree North Forks Lady Aemma’s dam, Llanarth Nansi, was imported as a yearling. Nansi is lovely and an outstanding brood mare. Her foals are superb. Those being shown, North Fork's Lord Byron, North Fork's Lady Jane and North Fork's Lady Ester, have won Supreme Championships and Championships in driving and in hand, east coast and west while North Fork Lord Percy is doing a fine job in the dressage world. She has an impressive show record in Wales, Canada and the U.S. Her sire is the renowned Llanarth Lord Nelson whom she closely resembles. Llanarth Lord Nelson is by Tyhen Comet. Tyhen Comet won the Royal Welsh four years in succession, culminating in winning the stallion class in 1969 and then going on to win the Supreme Championship The Prince of Wales Cup. Tyhen Comet, like his sire, went on to influence a further generation of Welsh Cob breeding. His stock topped the Welsh Cob Sales on numerous occasions and were winning regularly at all the major Shows. Tyhen Comet’s dam, Tyhen Mattie was born in 1956. Her sire was Mathrafal and her dam was Tyhen Beauty. She is a half-sister to Cahn Dafydd, Parc Lady and Tyngwndwn Mathrafal Lady. Tyhen Mattie won the George, Prince of Wales Cup in 1962, 1969 and 1973 and stood second to Parc Lady in 1960 and 1961. She was also second in 1965, 1967, 1968 and 1970. Llanarth Nansi’s dam, Llanarth Phoenix, is by the famous and much loved Llanarth True Briton. Llanarth True Briton was born in 1976. His sire was Nebo Black Magic whom won the 1971 male championship at the Royal Welsh Show. He was reserve overall champion to the winning mare Parc Rachel at the 1971 and 1975 Royal Welsh shows. In 1973 he went one stage better winning the George Prince of Wales Cup from the winning mare Tyhen Mattie and his dam was Llanarth Lady Valiant, by Cymro Lan who was out of the famous, Llanarth Braint's the dappled 14.2 hand palomino whos showing excellence really began in 1958 at the Ponies of Briton Show at Harrogate. Llanarth Braint received the championship 'in hand', won 1st prize under saddle, in harness and was crown Supreme Champion of the whole show. Perhaps what was equally important was the fact that, in the Welsh Cob class, the next five to him were all his progeny! After four successive third prizes at the Royal Welsh Shows, in 1957, 1958, 1959 and1960, Llanarth Braint stood at the top of the ten-strong stallion class and he also stood reserve to Parc Lady for the George, Prince of Wales Cup. Llanarth Braint's moment of glory was without doubt at the 1969 Royal Agricultural Society of England Show where, at nineteen years of age, he put up the show of his life to stand Champion Welsh Cob followed by various of his descendants of all ages and sexes. North Forks Lady Aemma’s sire, Balsuma High Flyer, sired by Llanarth Trustful, was born in 1985. He was sired by Derwen Telynor, and out of Llanarth Sian, Llanarth Sian was born in 1972. She is by Tyhen Comet, out of Llanarth Flying Saucer. Llanarth Flying Saucer was born in 1951. She was a Chestnut Roan with a blaze and a near hind white sock. She was 13.2hh. Llanarth Flying Saucer was shown extensively in the Section C brood mare class at the Royal Welsh Shows winning a second prize in 1956, another second prize in a mixed sex class in 1958, and again second in 1960, fourth in the mare class in 1962, fourth in 1964 and in 1965 she was awarded the Section C Championship and consequently retired from the show ring. During all these years she had been a prolific producer of foals. She had 19 foals. Llanarth Flying Saucers dam, Llanarth Rocket, was born in 1947. She was chestnut with a broad blaze and stood at 13.2hh. Her sire was Llanarth Prince Roland and her dam was Llanarth Fortress. When Rocket was three years old she was mated with Llanarth Braint, she produced Llanarth Flying Saucer in 1951 (incidentally also Llanarth Braint's first foal) and then she was sold as a riding pony to the Isle of Man where she was last heard of at thirty years old and still thriving. It is a matter of great regret to all at the stud that Rocket was not kept to produce another "Flying Saucer" and all the success that that would entail. Llanarth Flying Saucers’ sire, Llanarth Braint, was born in 1948. He was Palomino (later turned chestnut) and stood at 14.2hh. His sire was Llanarth Goldcrest and his dam was Llanarth Kilda. It was on the 20th of May 1978 a very large number of well wishers attended the thirtieth birthday party of Llanarth Braint and he died on 6th January 1979. Llanarth Goldcrest is the sire of Llanarth Braint. He was born in 1945. He was bright chestnut with an off hind white coronet band. He was 15hh. His sire was Pistyll Gold Flake and his dam was Pistyll Sunset, who was by Gwalia Victor. The mating of Llanarth Goldcrest to Llanarth Kilda in 1947 was unplanned since he was only a two year old at the time. However the result, Llanarth Braint, looked so promising that Goldcrest was retained at the stud prducing Llanarth Firelight in 1950 and Llanarth Mirabel in 1953. Llanarth Braint’s sire was Pistyll Gold flake, born in 1941. He was by Paith Flyer II and out of Pistyll Nancy by Trotting Jack. Llanarth Sians’ sire, Tyhen Comet, was by the illlustrious, Pentre Eiddwen Comet, a bold free moving stallion, winner in 1951 of the George Prince of Wales cup, supreme accolade in the Welsh Cob society an award which he was to win again five years later. Pentre Eiddwen Comet’s dam, Dewi Black Bess was born in 1926. Her sire was Ceitho Welsh Comet and her dam was Bess. She was the winner of the Prince of Wales Cup in 1935. Ceitho Welsh Comet was born in 1913. He was black with a white inside off hind fetlock. He stood at 14.2hh. His sire was Caradog Flyer and his dam was Rhystyd Black Bess. Ceitho Welsh Comet's stud card shows him to have had success in the show ring, first prize Brynamman in 1915, second at Lampeter in 1918, first at Lampeter and second at Tregaron in 1919, second at Llandovery in 1924 and finally a first prize at Tregaron in 1925. Dewi Rosina was born in 1934. She was black standing at 14.1hh. Her sire was Blaenwaun True Briton and her dam was Dewi Black Bess. Dewi Rosina won the foal class at the Llanilar Show. She won seven prizes (including championships at Cardigan, Llangwyryfon and Crugybar) in 1946, five first prizes in 1947 including the championship at Lampeter and Llangwyryfon and a second prize at the Royal Welsh Show. In 1949 she was second at the Royal Welsh Show. Then, in 1951 at seventeen years old, she won for the first time at the Royal Welsh. Her final appearance at the Royal Welsh was in 1953 where she was supreme champion and therefore her name became engraved on the George, Prince of Wales cup. Pentre Eiddwen Comet was by Eiddwens Image who was by Mathrafal Eiddwen. Mathrafal Eiddwen notched up a few prizes in the Royal Welsh show rings with a second prize in 1923 to Llwynog Flyer. It was in 1926 that he first won the coveted Prince of Wales Cup with the eminently successful sire, Llethi Valiant standing second. He repeated the award in 1927 but in 1928 Llethi Valiant beat him so he had to be content with second place. He had his revenge of Llethi Valiant at the 1929 show where Eiddwen won and Llethi Valiant was relegated into fifth place. This was also Eiddwen's third notch on the Prince of Wales Cup, a feat that he repeated for the fourth and last time in 1930. Mathrafal Eiddwen was by King Flyer. King Flyer was born in 1894. He was by Young Welsh Flyer and out of Bess, who is by Young Trotting Comet. Balsuma High Flyer’s dam, Lidgett Henrietta, was by, Llanarth Black Henry. *Lidgett Henrietta (Llanarth Black Henry x Sydenham Jasmin ) bred by Keven and Madeleine Hopkins' Lidgett Stud. Henrietta was a wonderful mare which the Schockett's were honored to own. Henrietta will always remain as the favorite and top Section D for the Schockett's. She was a lovely and most intelligent mare. She was absolutely special, and irreplaceable. She will remain in their heart and memory. She won several Supreme Champions including the prestigious Royal Winter Fair and The Old Mill Supreme (now Champion of Champions). She was under saddle and in harness trained by Larry Poulin. Unfortunately, she only had one offspring for Schockett’s Balsuma Farm; Balsuma Highflyer (who was sold on to Carole Holcombe's Northfork Stud in Oregon). Sadly, in 1996 Henrietta was lost as a result of many years of systemic illnesses. Henrietta carried on first through her son, Balsuma Highflyer (*Lidgett Henrietta x *Llanarth Trustful) at Carol Holcombe's Northfork Stud in Oregon. Her breeding program featured him at stud until he was gelded some years ago. Secondly, in her grand-offspring such as Northfork's Lady Jane whom is North Forks Lady Aemma’s full sister (Balsuma Highflyer x *Llanarth Nansi). Jane has produced foals (great grand-offspring) for Randy Bullard and Bob Fossi's Ranlan Stud in Missouri. North Forks Lady Aemmas dam,Llanarth Nansi, was by Llanarth Lord Nelson. Llanarth Lord Nelson was born in 1979. His sire was Tyhen Comet and his dam was Llanarth Lady Valiant, by Cymro Lan. Balsuma High Flyer’s dam, Lidgett Henrietta, was by, Llanarth Black Henry. Llanarth Black Henry was born in 1980. He is by Llanarth Flying Comet, and out of Llanarth Sian, who was by Tyhen Comet. Llanarth Flying Comet is the most successful of all the Welsh Cob stallions exhibited in the seventies; he came out as a yearling at the 1969 Royal Welsh Show, went straight to the top and has stayed there ever since! Never has a stallion enjoyed such fantastic success: first prize as a yearling in 1969, first in 1970 and 1971 with Reserve Male Championships on both occasions, then he entered the adult fray where as a fresh four year old he held off all opposition, gained the Male Championship and stood Reserve for the George, Prince of Wales Cup. Llanarth Flying Comet had a rest from the 1973 Royal Welsh but he came back in great form to be recipient of the Supreme award in 1974, 1976, 1977 and 1978. These are only a few of the major awards which have fallen to Llanarth Flying Comet, amongst the numerous championships which have gone his way, apart from the Royal Welsh Show successes, possibly his next most notable are four times qualifying for the Lloyds Bank award at the Horse of the Year Show and in 1975 being "Pony of the year" and Reserve overall champion and supreme champion in 1979. Llanarth Black Henry is out of Llanarth Sian, who was by Tyhen Comet. Tyhen Mattie won the George, Prince of Wales Cup in 1962, 1969 and 1973 and stood second to Parc Lady in 1960 and 1961. She was also second in 1965, 1967, 1968 and 1970. Tyhen Mattie’s sire, Mathrafal was born in 1936. Mathrafal’s Grandsire, Mathrafal Brenin was born in 1911. He was by Trotting Railway II and out of Dolly by Evolve. Tyhen Beauty’s Grandsire, Meiarth Royal Eiddwen, was born in 1939. He is by Brenin Gwalia and out of Meiarth Pride by Mathrafal Brenin. Brenin Gwalia was born in 1934. He was chestnut with a blaze and four white legs, standing at 14.2hh. His sire was Gwalia Victor and his dam was Cymares. Cymraes was born in 1929. She was by Mathrafal Brenin and out of Doll by Flying Express. A highlight of Brenin Gwalia’s showing career was at the 1947 Royal Welsh Show where he put up a great show and won the male championship. In 1948 he was selected by the Welsh Pony & Cob Society to represent the breed at the International Horse Show, where he proved to be a favourite with the spectators. Gwalia Victor was born in 1924. He was by High Stepping Gambler II and out of Hendraws Doll, who was by Briton Flyer. High Stepping Gambler II was by High Stepping Gambler I, and out of Fanny, who was by King Jack II.
