December 2007

Abram and Wheat have joined the South Medford High school Equestrian
team for the 2007-2008 season with their horses, Zamson and Colors.
Abram will be doing 5 gaming/cattle events including cattle dobbing,
barrels, figure 8, keyhole, individual flags, or roping. He is also part
of the 8 person drill team. It takes lots of hard work and practice to
synchronize 8 people and 8 horses in this drill of many different
maneuvers to music.
Wheat will be doing 5 gaming/cattle events including cattle dobbing,
barrels, figure 8, pole bending and keyhole. He may do the carriage
driving
patterns with Colors in harness.
The picture of the three cowboys is with Abram and the Wolf brothers,
Lucas
and Colton who are also part of the team. Since the Equestrian is
predominantly female, these boys have to stick together!
There will be three Equestrian meets with all the participating Southern
Oregon High school teams. The first one in Feb. 2008. The next meets
will be
in March and April. A state finalist meet will be held in May in
Redmond,
Oregon for those who qualify.

Such an honor to get
this e-mail from another Welsh Cob breeder and very
special lady:
"Congrats on your recent ASPR success! Your boy is lovely. If I
were keeping any full Cob mares for myself he'd be my go to guy
for a foal. Heck... who knows, a few years from now maybe I'll breed my
Arab
cross or our Saddlebred cross back to your spectacular boy!

Welsh Cobs and Cob Crosses

On the 16th of September
2007 we had a ASPR inspection held at Nancy
Kiesters Glory Trails Equestrian ranch in the Medford area. What a nice
hostess and beautiful place to be.
To our pleasant surprise the Site Champion was Pleasantstone Ammearl
born
7-17-07 (North Fork's Black Earl X North Fork's lady Aemma)
Reserve Champion was Bryn Goch Rhoderick Born 5/04/07 (Nebo Rhodri X
Winterlake Lola)
The site reserve Champion was a beautiful colt owned by Bud and Renee
Dickey and had just won 1st place under both Welsh judges at the Western
Nationals in August and was reserve Champion at the Oregon Welsh Pony
Society show in July also judged by a UK judge. A Really nice colt and
the
Dickey's were such gracious people.
The two judges, Sonja K.
Lowenfish and Jody J. Doyle encouraged us to hold
the inspection at Nancy Kiester's place again next year for obvious
reasons
and that her ranch is close to California for those sport pony people
whom
are looking for a site to have their own ponies inspected.
The gifted horse
photographer and his wife, Mike and Arleen Dickenson took
some pictures for us the day before the inspection. There was a mix up
with
the date but they came and took some pictures of Earl and his offspring
that
made it to Nancy's the day before the inspection.
Pictures are of Earl and
Earl being ridden by Ashley McIntyre, my 17 year
old niece. Afterwards Earl and Ashley went out to ride the trails. From
Nancy's ranch you can go for miles and miles in beautiful pine scented
wilderness.
Also shown is Earl's
three-year-old daughter, Velvet (pictured by Manzanita
bush). She is purebred Welsh out of a registered section B mare. She is
a
beauty and very athletic. A natural hunter-jumper owned by Jennifer
Morse
and shown by Stephanie Snyder.

Then Earl’s two newer
models, PS Ben's Blackbird (Earl X Thoroughbred mare)
owned by Nancy Kiester. Young sport-horse Blackbird is stunning and he
received his first premium award. I think he will be a big guy...can he
run! He is black and has a big perfect diamond face marking a lot like
Velvets but not quite so big.

Next our filly, Pleasant
Ammearl and a couple cute ones of David with Aemma
and Ammearl. David named her Ammearl. He put together Earl and Aemma and
got Pleasantstone Ammearld. We had to shorten it for the ASPR. He has
lots of fun with naming our youngstock.
Also shown is a yearling
black colt we have that is 1/4 Welsh Cob, his name
is Bravo and of course he is for sale. Had he been inspected he no doubt
would get high marks with his beauty and movement. He was dirty in the
photos for we did not yet give him a bath but he is a true blue black
color
and he too has a big perfect diamond on his forehead. His breeding is
like
Duke and Dante of Earl who are owned and shown by Windy Ying and Stewart
Grayburn in Florida.
The comments on Pleasant
Aemmearl's inspection paper were very favorable
with these comments written; 7.8 type- Feminine sport pony filly, neck
good length, great slope of shoulders, good topline, croup improvement
over dam, (Go Earl!), Conformation; 7.8 Sturdy, well built legs,
pasterns are improvement
over dams, (Go Earl), Movement; Travels correctly at the walk. Good
trot,
canter, ideal for driving!

It was so funny taking out site Champion Pleasant Ammearl's braids that
afternoon she was so funny looking...she was adorable with her frizzy
forelock and mane. She was darling. I did take a couple pictures! We
laughed so hard we 'almost' cried ...or peed our pants. Very amusing.
Our 14-year-old son,
Wheat, was a tremendous help keeping Aemma still so
her braid would stay in for the inspection. He was letting her listen to
his
I-Pod...and to be honest we think Aemma enjoyed his pick of music! By
the
look on her face she did!
Wheat also got to
drive the diesel pickup back and forth to get the
barbecue, salad and makings...so you know he enjoyed that. Thanks
Wheatie!
Note: Aemma's braid did last the whole inspection before it fell
apart....she was beautiful with her mane and tail braided, albeit a
'fat'
beauty! The judges liked her carriage and elasticity thought she had a
god
walk trot and canter. Aemma has produced or Grand produced four other
Premium sport ponies that I know of...GOOD Broodmare was written on her
inspection papers along with 'FAT' ....................(VBG!.....you
just
try keeping her thinner!?!) all and all it was a good inspection day and
we all had a lot of fun. Thanks again to all whom primped, prayed and
participated!
Now back to work...
Julie

Coming this fall. We
are planning on having several of Earl’s offspring
inspected this year, Lord willing!

July- 2007 An e-mail
from Elise owner of Pleasantstone Early-Anna, daughter
of Black Earl X Arabian/Pinto mare, Manathas Hosanna. We are so proud of
this young mare that we bred and her young owner Anna. It is so nice to
hear
of what they are doing together.
"This year my daughter Alex went to State with Early-Anna as a part of
the
Equestrian Team at her high school. She and Anna and their team partner
won the bronze medal for the entire region here. I am very proud of both
of them for all their hard work. I will have Alex send you some pics as
soon as she returns from CA.
Thanks, Elise"

July 17, 2007 Black
filly born! Pleasantstone welcomes Pleasant Ammearl
(North Forks Black Earl X North Forks Lady Aemma)

June 11, 2007 Got an
e-mail from Sterling Farms Morgans; Her registerd
Morgan mare had a filly by Black Earl!
"Dear David and Julie,
Rosie had a very nice bay filly with white hind socks! She is very long
legged, strong and happy.
I think this filly is going to make a wonderful sport
horse, so I will attempt to register her as an American Warmblood. I
think she will be as big as the mare, nice! And, great for Earl as
well!" Avona

July 4, 2007 Nancy
Kiester called to say "A Strapping Black colt born to
Birdy by Black Earl. She said he was a keeper and that they were going
to
keep him in the family for a future Grandsons sport pony. He will be
big, as
his dam is a big black Thoroughbred mare, a Seattle Slew Granddaughter.
Birdy looks a lot like her Grandsire, Seattle Slew. We expect great
things
from this colt and the mare is to be bred back to Earl for a 2008 foal.

May 10,2007 Tammy
called to say her Bashkir Curly mare had a very lovely
filly by Black Earl and she has the curly hair! Can’t wait to see this
baby.
Tammy has already booked another breeding to Earl. She is very happy
with
the results of this cross.

May 1, 2006 Shannon
Gross called to say a very handsome black colt was born to her out of
her mare, Merry, whom we think is a Quarter/ Arab cross. Merry was a
rescue with badly scarred front legs and twisted pasterns (we decided
that the legs were a result of an accident somewhere along the line and
not hereditary) so we had really no idea what she would produce. This
colt is breathtaking with a very nice head and very good straight strong
legs with
good bone. He can move too! What a natural athlete.

May 15, 2007 Letter from Wendy Ying Congratulations Julie and Earl !!!!
What
exciting news. Sterling and
I can not thank you enough for breeding our fabulous Earl babies, Duke
of
Earl and Dante of Earl. Not only are they flashy movers but have great
minds
and are super athletes. In 2006, Dante as a 6 yr old was 6th in the USEF
combined driving horse of the year awards and was shortlisted for the
USEF
single driving team which competed at the world championships in Rome,
Italy. Duke is moving up to advanced this year and has been undefeated
on
marathon every time out at the lower levels and the boys will be part of
a 4
in hand we are putting together for the World Equestrian Games in KY in
2010. But the very best thing about these boys is their temperament.
Sterling teaches driving lessons with them and we take them on picnic
drives. We will most certainly attend our local ASPR inspection here in
Florida so they can see his older crossbred offspring who are competing
at
FEI level.
good luck with Earl in dressage and the ASPR !
