County, Oregon is arguably one of the most beautiful and livable areas
of the Pacific Northwest — if not the country. Located in Southern
Oregon, Jackson County borders California to the south and is surrounded
by the majestic Cascade and Siskiyou Mountain ranges. It is
centrally-located along Interstate 5 between Portland and San Francisco,
and just hours from the Pacific Ocean coastline. Jackson County offers
breathtaking scenery in every direction, a growing economic base,
moderate weather and superior quality of life.
The historic 1850's gold rush town of Jacksonville, Oregon is nesteled
in the west hills of the Rogue Valley in Southern Oregon. The entire
historic core of the downtown and adjacent residential areas are on the
National Historic Register. Jacksonville is the gateway to Applegate
Valley, which has become a world renouned vineyard and winery area over
the last few years. Vineyards and Wineries in Southern Oregon and Umpqua
Valley are fast becoming some of the finest wine producing regions in
the country. Many different varieties of wine grapes are grown here.
Southern Oregon climate varies from cool and wet to warm and dry, and
variety of soils make this a premium wine making region. Southern Oregon
offers an excellent selection of wines such as Claret and Pinot Noir,
Mescolare, Chardonnay, Merlot, Viognier, and Cabernet Sauvignon, Spanish
and French wine grapes.
The surrounding Rogue Valley boasts world class fishing on the Rogue and
Applegate Rivers and Oregon Shakespeare Festival Oregon Shakespeare
Festival in Ashland. Rural Rogue Valley has become a haven for
Equestrian facilities due to the extensive trail systems on public and
private lands. Prime livestock and hay production farms and ranches
abound and include livestock operations.

Known for it's beauty, the Applegate Valley consists of several small
communities, the first town being Murphy. The town of Murphy is
located just off Williams Highway about five miles to the south of
Grants Pass, where Murphy Creek meets the Applegate River. The
community of Williams is in the Applegate Valley and is located about 12
mi. south of Grants Pass. A mix of ranches, rural residences & town
center with several businesses. It is a wonderful community, known for
its artists, musicians and peace & quiet, accentuated by some of the
most gorgeous scenery in the Rogue Valley.
Applegate
Lake: The forested slopes and often snow covered peaks of the Siskiyou
Mountains are reflected in the clear blue waters of Applegate Lake in
the Rogue River National Forest. In this scenic setting the U.S. Forest
Service operates hike-in campgrounds and lakeshore areas for picnicking,
swimming and boating. The lake extends to the California border and a
hiking trail follows the 18 mile shoreline. Development at most of the
recreational sites is minimal and the majority of the lakeshore has been
maintained in a natural state. Another measure for preserving the rustic
character of the lake is a ten mile per hour speed limit for all boats.
Paved trails and other barrier free facilities are provided at the day
use areas so that they may be enjoyed by all visitors. Water, stored in
the reservoir for flood protection, maintains a year round flow in the
Applegate River, assuring good quality water, even in dry summer months.
